The Southend Wind Orchestra is South Essex's premier woodwind ensemble.
Founded in April 2002 by its current Musical Director David Clark, Southend Wind Orchestra has made a significant contribution to the local music scene, and has rapidly built a reputation for excellence. Members come from all over Essex, with an age-range encompassing students through to senior citizens, all of whom have a minimum qualification of grade 6 and above.
The orchestra regularly gives concerts at local venues around South Essex and has performed at the bandstands in Priory Park, Southend and Castle Park, Colchester. We work with other musical groups in Southend to put on shared concerts. In addition, SWO frequently offers charity concerts and has helped raise thousands of pounds for various local charities.
Please join us for our next concert on 28th March 2020!
The Southend Wind Orchestra plays a varied repertoire of music and chamber music, including bespoke arrangements of many classics by SWO director, David Clark. Recent repertoire includes works by composers such as Martin Ellerby, Johannes Brahms, Edward Elgar and Percy Grainger. SWO also frequently performs larger concert band works with the Southend Band including classics from the American Songbook.
